Start the Proposal
- From your browser, navigate to Kuali Curriculum Management (CM).
- Select Curriculum to open your Dashboard .
- From the left-hand navigation menu, select Courses.
- On the Courses page, select + New Course in the upper-right corner.

The following sections of this walkthrough are grouped by section of the proposal form.
Contact Information
Complete the following fields with your contact information.
- Proposer Name
Your name is automatically populated based on your Kuali account.
- Proposer Title
Enter your university role.
- Proposer Email
Enter your URI email address. This is the email reviewers will use if they have questions about your proposal.
Course Administration
- Effective Term & Year
Select the term and year in which you intend the course to become effective. If the effective term entered at proposal submission has missed the deadline by the time it reaches the Faculty Senate, this field will be automatically updated to the next available semester.
- Academic Career
Select the appropriate Academic Career from the available options. You may only choose one option. If you plan to offer this course in both the traditional and accelerated calendars, please provide a rationale in the Supporting Materials file upload gadget that comes after the description.
- College
Select the college in which the course is housed.
- Department
Select the department in which the course is housed.
- Honors Program
Select Yes or No.
- 🔽 The following field will appear only if “Yes” is chosen for Honors Program.
- Honors Type
Select HPR Course or H-section of Existing Course.
- General Education
Select Yes or No.
- 🔽 The following field will appear only if “No” is chosen for General Education.
Course Information
- Subject Code
The subject code must be owned by the College and Department previously entered in the form.
- **Number**
A validation error will occur if you use a number already in use by the subject code. The course numbering system is found in UM 8.30.10.
- Temporary course numbers end with an “X”
- Grand Challenge course numbers end with a “G”
- Is this a 400-level course available for graduate credit?
Required for all courses. Select Yes or No, regardless of the course level.
